80, died at 12:15 PM on Thursday, December 19, 2013, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Delphos, Ohio.
Donald was born on Saturday, April 22, 1933, in Falls River, Massachusetts, to John Cygan and Dora "Sarah" (Gelina) Cygan.
On June 7, 1952, Donald married Shirley Ann (Williams). She preceded him in death on October 28, 2004. He retired from the Dana Corporation after 36 years as a cutter grinder. He was a Korean War Veteran serving with the 31st Field Artillery Division. He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church. He volunteered there in the cafeteria, he also was an usher, counted the offering, and was organizer and grief facilitator of their "Life after Loss" group. He also worked the St. Rose Carnival every year and was awarded the 2012 "Volunteer of the Year" at St. Rose. He was inducted into the 2013 LCC Hall of Fame with the 1951 St. Rose Baseball Team. He received the 2013 "Open Arms" award from the Toledo Diocese.
He is survived by: a son - Scott (Alice) Cygan, of Kalida, OH; two daughters Kelly (Dave) Foust, of Lima, OH. and Chris (Bill) Latham, of Lima, OH,; six grandchildren Alan Cygan, Kevin Cygan, Rachel Cygan, Renee Cygan, Amber Sybert Solomon, Nicholas Cygan; four great grandchildren Brayden Solomon, Zane Solomon, Addysenn Cygan, and Deakin Cygan,; two "adopted daughters" Kerry Miller, Lima, OH, and Cheryl Bishop, Lima, OH; a special friend Jean Paulus; two God children Cathie Neu, and Nick Cygan.
He was preceded in death by: a brother Roger Cygan; and a sister-in-law Betty Cygan.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Sunday, December 22, 2013 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home in Lima, Ohio followed by a Parish Wake Service at 8:00 P.M.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 AM on Monday, December 23, 2013 at St. Rose Catholic Church with Rev. J. Norbert Howe officiating.
Interment will be in Gethsemani Cemetery, Lima, Ohio. Military graveside honors will be conducted by VFW Post 1275.
