Virginia Louella Backs
age 78 of Lima, Ohio, passed away on December 29 after an extended illness. "Ginny" was born in Mendon, Ohio on January 11, 1935 to Mildred and John Lloyd Bader.
She graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Celina in 1953, where she was honored as valedictorian, and attended the Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in Dayton, Ohio. She married Joseph L. Backs of Montezuma on September 14, 1955.
Ginny is preceded in death by her husband, Joe, her sister, Rolla Lee Scott, and her parents.
She is survived by seven children, Michael (Susan) Backs, Allison (Mark) Jones, Anthony (Judy) Backs, Jean (Patrick) Backs-Hunkler, Theresa Bennett, Elizabeth (Doug) Eaton, and Joseph P. (Mandy) Backs, along with 16 grandchildren: Aaron Backs, Delphie Backs, Mike (Elizabeth) Jones, Luke (Anna) Jones, Audrey Jones, Christopher Backs, Ryan Backs, Ben Hunkler, Eli Hunkler, Andy Backs, Kate Bennett, Will Eaton, Sarah Eaton, Bridget Backs, Charlie Backs and Olivia Backs, and one great-grandchild, Luna Jones, niece Polly Zeigler and nephew Calvin "June" Scott Jr., cousin Lanna Samaniego, and many more nieces and nephews.
Ginny was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Lima where she was active in the Altar Rosary Society, volunteered at the St. Vincent DePaul Society, served as a girl scout leader, and participated in the Funeral dinner ministry. . She also served as a Red Cross volunteer. She was an avid Buckeye fan. She loved spending time with friends and family and enjoyed playing cards, Scrabble, and crossword puzzles.
Visitation will be on Thursday, January 2, 2014 from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with a wake service following the visitation at 7:00 P.M. at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, January 3, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Charles Catholic Church, with Rev. Stephen Blum officiating.
