James William Davis

April 29, 1936 ~ October 12, 2018 (age 82)

James “Jim” William Davis, 82, of Lima, passed away on Friday, October 12, 2018 at 7:40p.m. at Lima Convalescent Home. He was born on April 29, 1936 in Anderson, IN to the late Edmund and Frances {Michaels} Davis. On August 22, 1959 he married Wilma Barnhill, who survives him in Lima.

Jim served in the United States Marines following high school. He attended Ohio Northern University, majoring in education and he taught for 4 years at Whitter. He then worked at Browns Floor Covering, selling carpet for many years. He was a former president of Jefferson PTA and was a leader of the Indian Guides through the YMCA. He was a current member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a former member of Grace United Methodist. Jim loved to watch softball games as well.

He is survived by his wife Wilma, children: Pam (Brian) Smith of Pensacola, FL, Penny Layton of San Francisco, CA, Kevin Davis of San Francisco, CA, Keith Davis of Lima, and Kurt (Chris) of Lima, grandchildren: Michael Smith of Pensacola, FL,  Brandon (Brandi) Davis of Bellefontaine, OH, Bradley (Morgan) Davis of Lakeview, OH, Shane Davis of Lima, Jacob Davis of Lima, Benjamin (Chasity) Davis of Lima, Carson Layton of San Francisco, CA, and Kaitlin Coggin of Pensacola, FL, great-grandchildren: Irelyn, Eberley, and Forrest Smith, Tarren, Jasslen, and Chasan Davis, Porscha, Kameryn,  and Payton Davis, and Logan Davis, brother Ed(Patty) Davis of Lima, step-sister Barbara Sellers, and sister-in-law Barbara Davis of Anderson, IN.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Robert Davis and Steve Shipley.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Trinity United Methodist Church at 3 p.m. Pastor John Foster will officiate. Friends may visit from 1-3p.m. at the church. Military honors will be held at service.
