David Edwin Staley
age 84, passed away at 11:30 pm Friday August 25, 2017, at Shawnee Manor.
David was born to the late Hugh A. and Catherine A. (McVay) Staley on November 30, 1932, in Greenville, Ohio. On March 6, 1954, he married Dixie Jo Hollinger who survives in Lima.

David was a 1952 graduate of Greenville High School where he was involved in numerous sports. He was a graduate of Ohio Northern University where he played varsity football and basketball. He also graduated from Indiana University where he received his MS degree in educational administration. David taught school and coached football at Columbus Grove, Fostoria, and Lima Sr. High School. He was a member of the Kiwanis, Lions, and the Elks Clubs. He also worked as an Allen County Juvenile Probation Officer and served as a Boy Scout Troop Leader. David served as commissioner and coach of little league football and baseball teams in Lima. Additionally he served on the Shawnee School Board, Apollo Vocational School Board, and was a lifetime member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and served on numerous committees there. David served in the US Army.

David was an avid football fan and his team of choice was The Ohio State University football team. He was a member of the Ohio State University President's Club and the Buckeye Club. He attended Ohio State football games, both home and away, and always got to his seat early to watch the warm-ups. David liked to travel and enjoyed spending fun times with his family in the Florida Keys. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife and many friends to foreign countries. Most of all he was a loving husband and father and enjoyed getting together with his family and friends... making them laugh. He had a caring concern for his students and always did whatever he could to help them succeed.
