Josephine Anne (Janny) Christen, age 90, died on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at her residence in Lima.
She was born on November 13, 1926 in Sidney, Ohio to the late Raymond and Zita (O'Connor) Gallagher. On January 14, 1948, she married William G. Christen Sr., who preceded her in death in 1988.
She is survived by her children, William (Anne) Christen, Jr., Columbus, Thomas E. Christen, Bellefontaine, Dennis A. Christen, Troy, Joan M. (Anthony) DeRose, Lima, Carol M. (Raymond) Arreguin, Findlay and Michael R. Christen, Lima; sixteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: daughter, Martha Jean Christen; son, Kevin Joseph Christen; daughter-in-law, Carrie Christen; granddaughter, Emily Christen; five sisters and four brothers.
Josephine was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother who enjoyed walking, especially the Bresler Reservoir and Lima's north end. She was an avid sports fan and a witty observer of current events. She was soft spoken, a quiet leader by example, was admired for her "Irish" strength, and above all was well grounded in her Catholic faith.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 PM and from 6 to 8 PM on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home in Lima, Ohio.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 AM on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at St. Rose Catholic Church in Lima, Ohio. Father David Ross will officiate. Internment will be in Gethsemani, Lima, Ohio.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Rose Catholic Church.
