Ronald DeLynn Thomas, 83, of Fairfax Station, Virginia, passed away on August 8, 2023, surrounded by family and friends.
Ronald (Ron) was born to Robert D. and Hazel A. Thomas on December 9, 1939, in Lima, Ohio. He married Linda K. (Montgomery) Thomas in 1959, who survives him.
Ron is also survived by son, Jeffrey Thomas of Kilmarnock, VA; daughter, Lori (Martin) Kelly of Whitestone, VA; and brother, Dan (Frances) of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ron was preceded by his parents; brothers, Edsel and Robert Marcus; sisters, Anita (Henry) Dodson, Pauline (Grover) Geiger, and Janet (Gene) Herring.
Ron graduated from Lima Senior High School in 1957. He received a Bachelor of Science Electrical Engineering degree from Ohio Northern University and a Master’s Degree in Business from George Mason University. He was a State of Ohio Registered Professional Engineer, a commercial pilot (instrument rated), and a Certified Real Estate Appraiser.
Ron began his professional career with the United States Air Force’s (USAF) Avionics Laboratory. During that time, he was selected to present a paper at the International Air Transport Association conference in Munich, Germany. Ron joined a new USAF System Program Office (SPO), where he worked on aircraft and missile navigation and guidance systems. Ron co-authored and co-presented some of the results of that work at a NATO AGARD conference at the Italian War College in Florence, Italy. Ron’s career took him to Washington DC and the Pentagon. There he served in a variety of senior financial and technology management positions in the Department of Defense. He was promoted into Senior Executive Service, a skilled set of individuals who could succeed in different roles across the Federal Government. Ron left government service for private industry. There he became Vice President and CFO of Technology Strategies & Alliances Corporation. He consulted with numerous aerospace companies including negotiations regarding U.S. companies investing in foreign entities. Ron enjoyed his work.
In accordance with the deceased’s wishes, there will not be a funeral or viewing. There will be a graveside service for family members and close friends.
