Alvin Davis

Alvin L. Davis, 87, passed away at 8:52 a.m. on Monday, July 27, 2026, at Mercy Health St. Rita’s.

Alvin was born on October 23, 1938, in Baltimore, Maryland, to James and Susie (Foster) Newby. On February 8, 1959, he married Theresa (Beasley) Davis, who survives in Lima.

Alvin retired from Ford Motor Company after 30+ years, and was in the Army Reserves. He was a UAW Union Member and a loyal Ohio State Buckeyes fan. He loved to golf, cook, bowl, and playing Euchre.

He is survived by his children, Linda Tolbert and Glen Davis; 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; siblings, Mable Newby, Dennis (Doris) Newby, Ann Newby, Shirley Hodgers, Thoroa Davis and Corene Newby.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Regina Saiz; siblings, James Newby Jr., Rudulph Hines, Odell Davis, Cliffton Davis and Jene Newby.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday, July 31, 2026, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Lima.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
