Amelia Ann “Amy” (Hittle) Buettner, age 90, passed away at 3:29 p.m. on April 28, 2025, at Mercy Health St. Rita’s Medical Center, after a brief illness.
Amy was born on June 13, 1934 in Delphos, Ohio to John F. and Helen M. (Rott) Hittle. On February 7, 1954, she married the love of her life, Ellis Gene Buettner, who passed away in 2022.
Amy was a 1952 graduate of Delphos Jefferson High School. Before starting a family, she worked as a clerk for the City Loan & Savings Co. in Lima. She was a long-time member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she served her Lord and Savior in multiple areas. She most recently worshipped at Grace Community Church, where she made many new and special friends. Up to the time of her passing, she expressed her love language by faithfully sending cards to family members, friends, and to all she knew.
She is survived by her son, Michael (Tammy) Buettner of Lima; daughter Susan (John) Stiles of Lima; son David (Debbie) Buettner of Lima; and son Donald Buettner of Fort Wayne; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Irma Buettner of Delphos; sister-in-law Lois (Buettner) Halliwill of California; sister-in-law Edna (Buettner) Feathers of Wyoming and her husband John; and sister-in-law Carol Buettner of Delphos.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Isabelle (Hittle) Ott; brother-in-law Donald Ott; brother John Hittle and his wife Patricia; brother-in-law Donald J. Buettner and his wife Anna; brother-in-law Thomas Buettner; brother-in-law George Buettner and his wife Delores; brother-in-law Robert Halliwill; sister-in-law Dorothy (Buettner) Miller and her husbands Wayne Metzger and Gene Miller; and brother-in-law Richard Buettner.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to Noon on Monday, May 5, 2025 at Grace Community Church in Lima, Ohio. A memorial service will follow at Noon, officiated by Pastor John Hayward. Burial of ashes will be at a future date in Walnut Grove Cemetery in a private family ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pilot Dogs, Inc. of Columbus (in memo, write “In memory of Amelia (Amy) Buettner”), or to Focus on the Family (in memo: “Adventures in Odyssey”).
