Arthur THOMAS

November 20, 1914 — February 1, 2005

ARTHUR A. THOMAS, 90, of Indianapolis, formerly of Lima, died at 10 a.m. Feb. 1, 2005, at St. Francis Hospital, Indianapolis. He was born Nov. 20, 1914, in Lima to Ralph U. and Myrtle Cox Thomas, who preceded him in death. On Feb. 13, 1965, he married Jean G. Zimmerman, who survives in Indianapolis. Mr. Thomas retired as vice president of mortgage loans from Metropolitan Bank, after 43 years. He was a member of South Side Christian Church, where he had served as chairman of the board. He was a charter member and past president of the Exchange Club and a life member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 54. He was a member of the Colony in the Wood Bowling League, Dayton, and a former member of the Daytona Beach Golf Club. He had served as treasurer for the Allen County Easter Seal Society. He was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin School of Banking. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving from Oct. 20, 1943, to March 7, 1946, as a master sergeant in Hawaii. Survivors also include a daughter, Carol J. Zimmerman Zellner of Willard; a son, William C. (Mary) Zimmerman of Indianapolis; six grandchildren, Tamera L. Ford, Jami M. Zellner Hensley, Ami Beth Zellner Boley, David M. Zimmerman, William C. Zimmerman and Timothy J. Zimmerman; and four great-grandsons, five great-granddaughters and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lauretta L. Pennington; two brothers, Roy R. and Louis A. Thomas; and a granddaughter, Lori R. Zimmerman. Memorial services will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275. Wanda Werking will officiate. Burial of the cremains will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to services Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association/Ohio West, 226 state Route 61, Norwalk, OH 44857; or South Side Christian Church Building Fund, 3300 South Side Drive, Lima, OH 45805.
