Buddy R. Vanderhoff, 79, passed away at 6:08 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at Mercy Health St. Rita’s.
Buddy was born on June 29, 1943 in Fostoria, Ohio to Robert and Christena Grace (Stahl) Vanderhoff. On June 11, 1983 he married Nancy Lee (Cannon) Vanderhoff, who passed away on March 7, 2020. On June 26, 2022 he then married Julia Montgomery-Vanderhoff who survives in Lima.
Buddy was a watchmaker/jeweler who retired from Don Jenkins Jewelers after many years of service. He was an accomplished musician who performed with several different area bands over the years. His specialty was the steel guitar, of which he had handcrafted several himself. He was best known as “Buddy Van” of the Van Dells band and the Second Chance quartet of Lima. He was a good Christian man who enjoyed fishing, family outings, and sports; but MUSIC was his first love, and the highlight of his life.
In addition to his wife, Julia, he is survived by his daughter, Shelley (Dave) Edmiston of Lima; son, Robert (Michelle) Vanderhoff of York, SC; and grandchildren, Melissa and Roby. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at Full Gospel Tabernacle, 1520 Stewart Rd., Lima, Ohio where he attended. Rev. Tony Lewis will officiate.
