Charles Dowing

CHARLES ALBERT "CHARLIE" DOWNING, 79, died at 11:52 a.m. January 12, 2005, at St. Rita's Medical Center. He was born November 13, 1925, in Lima, Ohio to Olaf and Evon Helms Patton, who preceded him in death. On December 23, 1945, he married Kathryn Shaw, who survives in Elida, Ohio. Mr. Downing retired from Pepsi-Cola, after 12 years, and had worked at Meadow Gold Dairy. He was a member of Lima Baptist Temple. He was an Army veteran serving from December 6, 1945 to December 19, 1946. He was a very hard working man who loved his wife, children, sons-in-law, grandchildren, relatives, friends, his pastor, Gary, and the church. He also loved his dog, Sonny. He talked to everyone he met and will be missed by many. Survivors also include two sons, William Downing and Mike "Mick" Downing, both of Lima, Ohio; four daughters, Diane (Tim) Miller and Sandy (Greg) Frazee, both of Lima, Ohio, Pat (Don) Kleman of Dayton, Ohio and Mary (Jerry) Goodwin of Lima, Ohio; 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Charles Downing. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Pastor Gary Hohman will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Elida. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
