Dixie Jo Staley

Dixie Jo Staley, age 91, passed away on Friday, October 16, 2026, at The Springs of Lima. She was born in Versailles, Ohio, and was the daughter of Thelma and Glenn Hollinger, who preceded her in death. In 1954, she married David Staley, who preceded her in death in 2017. 

Dixie was a graduate of Bradford High School and attended Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana. She was a devoted wife and mother and enjoyed attending sporting events, cheering enthusiastically for her husband, who coached football, and for her children’s activities. Early in her life, she worked for Kroger Co. and enjoyed collecting and selling antiques. Dixie sold real estate later in her life. 

Some of the best times of her life were the yearly family vacations in the Florida Keys, where she would prepare a spread of food for her family on the beach. She also enjoyed traveling to Europe with her family and friends. Dixie, along with her husband, was an avid Ohio State football fan and attended home and away games, including championship games, for many years. She loved all of the tailgating parties at the OSU football games. Dixie was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Lima. 

Dixie is survived by two sons, William (Heidi) Staley of Mechanicsville, VA, and David (Jennifer) Staley of Temperance, MI; and two daughters, Risë (Stephen) Light of Lima and Gretchen (Gene) Turner of Saint Marys, OH. She had seven grandchildren: Robert Staley, Angie Staley, Jennifer Murphy, Derek Turner, Kristi Turner, Elyse Turner, and Nick Staley; and twelve great-grandchildren. 

Dixie was the youngest of five siblings. Her three sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.
