Doris Evelyn Fisher, 97, of Lima, entered the presence of her Savior at 3:30 p.m. on December 25, 2020 at Vancrest in Van Wert. She was born December 22, 1923 to Alvin and Mabel (Kauffman) Brenneman, who preceded her in death. On May 15, 1944 she married Lyman Arthur Fisher. She loved him dearly and said often, “He was such a handsome fellow, and just a really good man!” He preceded her to Heaven on September 18, 1992.
Doris was a proud alumnus of Shawnee High School, and even in her later years, enjoyed driving by the high school and listening to the marching band practicing on the football field. She was a long time member of Faith Baptist church in Elida. Doris worked from the time she was a young woman at the Ark of Sweets in downtown Lima, until its closing in 1978. From that point on, she worked at Buckeye Furniture in Lima, until she retired at the young age of 90.
Doris was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed visits with her family and sitting on the floor with her great-grands, playing with trains or costume jewelry, even in her most recent years. She enjoyed cooking meals and sharing them with her family, both immediate and extended. Her co-workers were just a dear to her as her family, and often enjoyed the benefits of her cooking as well. She was an avid gardener, bird watcher, decorator, and took much pride in her home, both inside and out.
Survivors include her daughter, Madelyn “Lynn” (Eugene) Miller of Lima; two granddaughters, Sarah (Nick) Kennedy of Lima, and Jessica (Anthony) Pero of Gastonia, North Carolina; 7 great-grandchildren: Colson, Morgan and Kylie Kennedy, Aria, Evelyn, Lucas, and Levi Pero; a sister, Beulah “Boots” Redmond of Lima, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, John Redmond.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home in Lima, with visitation preceding the service from 12:30 – 2:30 p.m. Rev. Bruce Snyder and Pastor Tom Cooper will officiate.
