G. Jay Clevenger, 84, passed away at 9:56 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at his home.
Jay was born on June 17, 1940, in Lima, Ohio, to Donald R. and Evelyn Mae (Pursell) Clevenger. On July 1, 1994, he married Etta Faye (Mason) Clevenger, who survives in Columbus Grove.
Jay was a 1959 graduate of Vaughnsville High School. He served in the Navy with the Sixth Fleet aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt carrier in the Mediterranean. Jay had worked at Roundy’s Food in their warehouse, retiring after 30 years. He was a member of Lima Missionary Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Debbie (Cliff) Miller and Dawn Clevenger; stepdaughters, Missy (Jeremy) McBeth and Heather (Scott) Raines; three grandchildren and four step grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sister, Carole Staver; and twin brother, Ray (Ann) Clevenger.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, David Clevenger; and brother, Tommy Clevenger.
The family will receive friends from 4 – 8 p.m. on Monday, July 15, 2024, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, Lima Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Terry Brock and Rev. Cameron Mason will officiate. Burial will follow at Vaughnsville Cemetery, Vaughnsville, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lima Missionary Baptist Church or Vaughnsville Community Center.
