Emblem

Gene Douglas Swint, 83, of Lima, went Home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 11, 2025 at St. Rita’s Medical Center, with his two daughters by his side.

Gene was born on March 4, 1942, in Morgan County, Tennessee, to Hugh and Grace (Hamby) Swint, who preceded him in death. He married the love of his life, Sharon Kay Prater from Prestonsburg, Kentucky on June 29, 1963.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Tonya “Tony” Jean Swint (Mark Bowsher) of Spencerville, OH, and Carmone “Carmy” Sue (Duncan) Macfarlane of Mansfield, OH; grandchildren: Joseph Douglas Swint of Fairbanks, AK, Brandie Lei Iler of Cridersville, OH, and Ryan Anthony (Alyssa) Nichols of Mansfield, OH; great-grandchildren; Wesley James Stimmel, Nash Timothy Nichols, and Maeve Elizabeth Nichols, who were the twinkle in his eyes and he loved dearly. He is also survived by his siblings: Frank Eldon Swint of Spencerville, OH, Anna Mae Boles of Rockwood, TN, James Robert Swint of Rockhill, SC, Reba Lois Crites of Lancing, TN, Roy Everett Swint of Wartburg, TN, Larry Don Swint of Lancing, TN, Harold Dean Swint, of Lancing, TN, Daniel Gerald Swint of Wartburg, TN, Nathan Kelly Swint of Wartburg, TN, Norman Carl Swint of Sunbright, TN, and Velda Kay Beasley of Lancing, TN.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael Vaughn Swint and Hugh Edward Swint; and one sister, Myra Joyce Howard.

Gene served in the United States Army. He was stationed in Korea and served as military police.

He was a true follower of God and a member of Lima Baptist Temple. He put his trust in Christ and knew he had a Home to go to. He was the “best welder” and worked with Clark Equipment, Ford Motor Company, and General Dynamics for 33 years collectively.

He was a caring and doting husband, and the best dad a girl could ever hope for. He was a father figure to many. You could call him at any time, and he would be there. He led by example and was an inspiration to many through acts of mission work, charity, and just plain kindness. He was selfless and giving. He taught his next generation the value of repairing rather than replacing. He could fix anything. One word to describe him, Hero!

The family will receive friends from 3 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio. The funeral service will begin at 12 noon on Friday, July 18, 2025, at the funeral home, with one hour visitation prior to service. Rev. Gary Hohman will officiate.
