George Long

GEORGE OLIVER LONG, 80, died at 3 p.m. March 26, 2005, at Springview Manor Nursing Home. He was born May 4, 1924, in Elida, Ohio to John A. and Dora Moubray Long, who preceded him in death. On June 22, 1946, in Dayton, Ohio, he married Clara Mae Oliver, who survives in Elida, Ohio. Mr. Long had been a farmer most of his life and was owner and operator of L&C Ice Sales and Sunflower Signs until he retired. He was a member of Old German Baptist Church. He had been in civilian public service. He always enjoyed working with his hands, whether it be electrical, plumbing or carpentry work. Survivors include two sons, Marvin Long of Plant City, Florida, and Lawrence (Vicki) Long of Lima, Ohio; three daughters, Doris Creed and Juanita Myers, both of Lima, Ohio, and Martha (Clyde) Neinas of Elida, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth "Libby" Long of Elida, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Ruby Long Morris of Elida, Ohio; a brother, Harold (Bonnie) Long of Elida, Ohio; and 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sons, Harvey Long, Gerald Long and Albert Long; two brothers, Walter Long and Paul Long; and a sister, Grace Garber. Services will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at Old German Baptist Church. The Home Brethren of the church will officiate. Burial will be in Ash Grove Cemetery, Elida, Ohio. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
