Gerald Malcolm Brazier, 83, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Gerry was born on July 10, 1942, in Skipton, Yorkshire, England, to Fred and Ethel (Green) Brazier. On March 16, 1992, he married Sharon (Wolfe) Brazier, who survives in Lima.
Gerry had a long, successful career with Ford Motor Company, first in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, then Detroit, followed by Chihuahua, Mexico and finally landing at the Ford Lima Engine plant.
One of the pastimes he enjoyed was bowling in a league at Westgate Lanes, which is where he met Sharon when he offered her advice on how to keep from bowling gutter balls. He liked to joke that he “got her out of the gutter”.
Gerry was an avid golfer and a former member of Lost Creek Country Club. He loved travel and vacations, especially when they involved golf or being on the water. As a young man in England, he loved sailing and participated in sailboat racing. He was a talented carpenter and not only built a beautiful deck and gazebo around a pool for the grandkids but also lent his skills to recovery efforts after Hurricane Katrina.
He and Sharon have been members of Cable Road Alliance Church for over 30 years, hosting a small group Bible Study and participating in numerous ways.
His English upbringing made him a soccer fan (Manchester United) but he also embraced American football and cheered on the Detroit Lions and Ohio State Buckeyes.
Gerry’s greatest joy came from his family. He taught grandkids to swim in the pool, made family trips to Disney and the beach possible, proudly recorded any grandchild’s dance or music recital, or sports he was able to attend, and was affectionately known as “the baby whisperer”, calming many a fussy baby with his deep voice, Yorkshire accent and comforting presence.
He is survived by his children: Phillip (Chris) Brazier of Seymour, IN, Anne Brazier of McGregor, Ontario, Paul (Jill) Brazier of Rockwood, MI, Amy (Marty) Bannister of Dublin, OH, and Ann Whitaker of Hamilton, OH; son-in-law, Ernest Whitaker of Lima; grandchildren: Kirstin, Alex, Audrey, Lilli (Ross) and Sophia; great-grandchildren; Emma, Eva, Adelyn, Adrielle, Amaya, Gabriel, Elijah, London, Eloise, and Josephine.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Patricia Harwood; nephew, David Harwood; and grandson, Francis Paul.
The family will receive friends starting at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 29th at Cable Road Alliance Church with service to follow at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Richard Jueckstock will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Josie’s Light at https://gofund.me/0ce7ef6cc in support of Gerry’s youngest great-granddaughter, Josephine, who was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder at 6 months of age.
