Gilbert O. Lindawan passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Lima Memorial Hospital. Despite valiantly, bravely, and with unceasing positivity fighting cancer, his 78-year-old body could endure no more. He died peacefully surrounded by his family.
Gilbert was born on April 22, 1948, to Martin Lindawan Sr. and Jouencia (Orozco) Lindawan. He grew up with five brothers: Romeo, Joe, Wilson, Augusto, and Martin Jr.; and two sisters, Catherine and Juliet in Subic, Zambales, Phillippines. He married Erlinda Angeles on August 28, 1976.
He is survived by his wife, his children, Gayla Marie (Aaron) Stiles and Michael Gilbert (Jess) Lindawan; four grandchildren: Jaeda Angeles Stiles, Ravenna Mahal Stiles, Keahnu Michael Lindawan, and Isaiah Michael Lindawan; his sisters and brothers-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews who provided him with so much love, comfort, joy and peace. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joe; and sister, Catherine.
Military service shaped his life, set up by his father’s example who served in the Army, and two brothers in the Navy, while he served in the Marines. He worked at Continental Plastic and Honda of America Manufacturing in Anna until he retired in May 2009.
Gilbert was a proud member and officer of the Northwestern Ohio Filipino – American Association, the Lima Our Lady of Fatima Devotion & Prayer, and St. Gerard Catholic Church. He loved to fish, and his saltwater aquarium and small pond were filled with koi and goldfish. He enjoyed feeding and watching the birds that feasted on his countless feeders, and he also enjoyed tending his vegetable garden. You could see his great big smile when he was invited to go to the casino! We will surely miss his quiet devotion to his family and friends.
With gratitude and deep sorrow, the family will receive friends at St. Gerard Catholic Church at 240 W. Robb Ave., Lima, Ohio from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2026. A funeral mass will follow the visitation at 12 p.m. A private family burial will be held at Dayton National Cemetery at a later date.
