Gregory A. McGuire, affectionately known as “Papa,” “Mr. Miyagi” and “Grego,” age 73, passed away peacefully at his home on May 23, 2026 at 5:40 a.m. following a courageous battle with cancer.
Greg is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Sandra Rodriguez McGuire; his children Nichol McGuire-Hart (Carrie), Jessica Vorhees (Amy Glanemann), and bonus daughter Robin Rodriguez; and his cherished grandchildren Taler McGuire (Dre Chitman), Stacie Vernon (Thad), Justin Vorhees (Hannah Reichert), Jacob Vorhees (Abby Watkins), Lauren Bach (Alyssa Doty), and Jude Bach (Madeline Brunner). He was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren who brought him endless joy.
Greg is also survived by his siblings Kenneth (Patty) McGuire, Kathy (Tom) Gerdemann, Barb (Fred) Kline, Michael McGuire, Sharon (Bobby) Cheney, and Lisa (Jim) Lynch.He was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Elizabeth (Wilhelm) McGuire, and siblings Margaret and Billy McGuire, Mary Lou Zuercher, Joan Lotz, James McGuire, brother in law Robert Cheney, niece Chastity Budwig and nephew Shawn McGuire.
Greg was a 1972 graduate of Lima Central Catholic and was drafted into the U.S. Army and served his country while stationed in Okinawa, Japan. After returning home, he dedicated his life to his work in various trades, focusing primarily on painting, power washing, and residential/commercial renovations.Greg had many passions and pastimes — from four-wheeling and hiking to traveling to his favorite place in Kentucky. Above all, his greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the light of his life.
Funeral services will be held at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, 920 N. Cable Road, Lima, Ohio, on Wednesday, May 27th, with visitation from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Gethsemani Cemetery. Greg’s family extends heartfelt thanks to those who supported and loved him through his illness. His humor, strength, and deep love for family will be forever remembered. Memorial contributions can be made to he family.
