It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Helen Mary Biedenharn, age 94, of Elida, Ohio, on October 10, 2026. She was married to Edmund J. Biedenharn for 66 years prior to his passing in May of 2025.
Helen was born on June 16, 1932, in Toledo, Ohio, to James and Mary (Brandhuber) Tobin. She attended Toledo Central Catholic High School and graduated from Riverside Hospital of Nursing. She devoted more than 30 years of her life to caring for others as an orthopedic nurse at Lima Memorial Hospital.
Helen found immense joy in collecting railroad memorabilia and sharing her passion for railroad history with her husband as they traveled together to railroad shows and exhibitions over the years. These adventures not only reflected their shared interests but also created lasting memories and friendships within the railroad enthusiast community.
A familiar and cherished presence at Primrose, Helen looked forward to her weekly Friday bingo games and occasionally joined in on Mondays as well. She was also a fierce and enthusiastic euchre player whose competitive spirit and sharp card-playing skills led to more victories than anyone could possibly count. Whether gathered around a card table or spending time with friends, Helen's energy, wit, and love of friendly competition made every occasion more enjoyable.
Above all, Helen will be remembered for her kind and compassionate heart, her infectious laugh, her wonderful sense of humor, and her unwavering faith that guided her throughout life. She had a remarkable ability to bring comfort, encouragement, and joy to those around her, leaving a lasting impression on family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
One of Helen's greatest treasures was the time spent with her family at Black Lake, Michigan. Summers there were filled with laughter, relaxation, traditions, and countless special moments that strengthened family bonds across generations. Whether enjoying the beauty of the lake, gathering for meals, or simply spending time together, those summers created cherished memories that will forever remain in the hearts of her loved ones. Helen's legacy of love, faith, and devotion to family and friends will continue to inspire all who knew her, and her memory will be treasured for years to come.
She is survived by her children, Mark (Melanie) Biedenharn, Jerry (Ann) Biedenharn, Susan (Tim) Martin, and Karen (Kevin) Nusbaum; her grandchildren, Kelly, Jessica, Amber, Amanda, Eric, Amy, Kevin, Joseph, and Alec; and her great-grandchildren, Kate, Eleanor, Benjamin, Jackson, Mason, Ruby, and Madison, along with many other beloved relatives and friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her loving husband, Edmund Biedenharn; her parents, James and Mary Tobin; her sister, Margaret Tobin; and her grandson, Jon Michael Biedenharn.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Chamberlain Huckeriede Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 16, 2026, at St. Gerards Catholic Church. Father Dan Borgelt will officiate. Family and friends are warmly invited to attend and celebrate Helen's life. Burial will follow at Gethsemani Cemetery, Lima, Ohio.
Helen touched countless lives through her kindness, faith, and generosity. Her legacy of love and compassion will continue to inspire all who knew her. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will remain forever in the hearts of her family and friends.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Primrose for the compassionate care, kindness, and meaningful friendships, Helen enjoyed during her time there. Their support and friendship brought comfort and joy to her life and will always be remembered.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Gerards.
