Hilda Cummings

January 15, 1927 — November 26, 2023

Lima, Ohio

Hilda M. Cummings, 96, of Lima, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2023, at Wyngate Senior Living Community. She was born Jan. 15, 1927, in Paulding County, the only daughter of Dewey Sanderson and Gladys (Myers) Sanderson Inwood, who preceded her in death. On June 7, 1947, in Dupont, she married Paul E. Cummings, who she created wonderful memories with and shared great adventures with for 61 years until his passing in 2008.

She leaves behind a loving and supportive family. Survivors include her son Lee (Andria) Cummings of Georgia; son-in-law Robert Raukohl of Illinois; three grandchildren, Beth Green of Wisconsin, Robert (Angie Mastin) Raukohl III of Minnesota and Eric (Michelle) Raukohl of Colorado; and four great-grandchildren Alex Green, Megan Green, Robert Raukohl IV and Emily Raukohl. Also surviving are dearest friends and sisters-in-law Janet Worline and Coleen Worline, both of Defiance, as well as nieces and nephews and their children.

Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter Pamela S. Raukohl; brothers and sisters-in-law Doyle (Florence) Sanderson and Vaughn (Florence) Sanderson; and brother- and sister-in-law Gene (Edie) Worline, and brothers-in-law Floyd Worline and Dale Worline.

Hilda was a 1945 graduate of Latty High School. She worked at Grizzley Manufacturing in Paulding.  In 1952, she joined Pratt & Whitney, which became Airfoil Textron, in Lima, where she worked for 36 years, retiring in 1988 as a final inspector. She was a member of First E&R Church; Order of the Eastern Star of Ohio - 16 Trinity Chapter; Life member VFW; Springbrook Golf Course, Hawthorn Thursday Morning League, member of Eagles Auxillary #370, and the Elks.

Paul and Hilda called Eustis, Fla., their winter home for six (cold Ohio) months a year starting in 1988. She loved to golf, play shuffleboard, and plan group outings; to sew her dresses for weekend dancing with Paul; to play her organ like a master; to play cards, euchre being her favorite, with the odds favoring her the winner; and to boat (water skiing or the pontoon) and camp on the Maumee River, Auglaize River, or Indian Lake. They also travelled across the country on Paul’s beloved Gold Wing motorcycle or in various RVs and flew to Hawaii.

Hilda was also a great cook, baker, and host, always prepared when relatives and friends would drop in. There was always dessert served after her meals. She could sit with her restaurant meal and taste the recipe, naming the ingredients.

The family would like to thank the new friends she made at Wyngate, including residents and the dedicated staff. A big thank you also to Interim Hospice staff and nurse Bridget.

The family will receive friends for a Celebration of Life from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, December 1, 2023, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio.  A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. starting with Eastern Star Burial Rites on Saturday, December 2, 2023.
