James F. Caven, 85, passed away Friday, October 9, 2026, at Lima Memorial Hospital.
James was born on September 9, 1941, in Piqua, Ohio, to the late Howard Franklin and Mabel (Middleton) Caven. On September 19, 1959, he married Linda (Hudson) Caven who preceded him in death. On February 19, 2000, he then married Linda (Savoie) Cook-Caven, who survives in Lima.
James worked in construction for Resto Corporation. He was an avid golfer who enjoyed both playing and watching the game, a passion he was proud to share with generations of his family. Jim also had a lifelong passion for auto racing, fueled by experiences such as working at and traveling to drag races. His love of Westerns, particularly those starring John Wayne and Clint Eastwood, was a source of amusement for his family. He was also an active member of the Eagles and longtime contributor and member of the Lima Elks Lodge.
Jim was a man of few words, so when he spoke, you knew he meant it. His family and friends valued his honesty, kindness, and acerbic sense of humor.
James loved and adored his large family, all of whom will miss him dearly. Along with his wife, Jim is survived by his brother, Tom Caven; stepsister, Becky (Mike) Speed; daughter, Kcee (Todd) Coil; sons, Brett (Diana) Caven and Brad (Karen) Caven; stepchildren Kimberly (Robert) Schiferl, Kenneth (Jenny) Cook, and Corinne Porter; grandchildren Brooke (Jason) Ruiz, Bradley (Paige) Caven, Brittney (Patrick) Beha, Kyle (Jenn) Caven, Gwen (Sam Hoffman) Caven; Shawn (Cassie) Caven, Tyler (Kortney Lampel) Caven, Colin Caven, Jon Caven, Jesse Porter, Herman Porter, Jacob Cook, Josh Cook, and Grace Cook; and great-grandchildren: Sydney Ruiz, James Caven, Declan Caven, Madelynn, Charlotte Beha, Mack Beha, and William Caven.
He was also preceded in death by his stepmother, Maxine Caven, and stepsister, Mary Burch.
The family will receive friends at 1l:30 a.m. on Friday, October 16, 2026, at Memorial Park Cemetery for a graveside service officiated by Paster Dennis Ward.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Deb’s Dogs or the Special Olympics.
