James Darrell Smith

James Darrell Smith, 55, passed away at 8:13 p.m. on August 16, 2026, at Mercy Health St. Ritas.

James was born on January 19, 1971, in Lima, Ohio, to Darrell and Joanna (Cotterman) Smith. On September 9, 2000, he married Susan Renee (Lyle) Smith, who survives in Lima.

James was really into sports of all kinds and even coached midget football. He loved golf, the Pittsburgh Steelers, Knicks, and OSU. James could also fix just about anything, and loved his animals, Tesla and Quagmire.

He is survived by children, Alexis (Joshua Johnson) Smith and Aaron (Alison) Smith; grandchildren, Katie, Aubree and Bentley; step-grandchild, Jordan; Sister, Cary (Eduardo) Mendez Sr.; and brothers, Scott and Kevin.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. Lay-Servant David Belton will officiate.

The family asks that visitors wear their Steelers or OSU gear.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
