James R. Grogan Sr., 73, passed away at 11:20 a.m. on Friday, August 23, 2024, at Lima Memorial Hospital. James was born on April 9, 1951, in Bucyrus, OH, to James Haskel and Beverly Ann (Fredricks) Grogan.
James served as a Marine during the Vietnam Era from 1969 to 1974. In his early years he was a mailman and motorcycle policeman, he became a master welder, and worked as a truck driver (his passion), for US Express and Dancer Logistics. James enjoyed playing computer games and cooking. He once owned his own restaurant. He also loved to play pool.
He is survived by his son, James (Stayce Furr) Grogan; daughters, Regina Nicole (Brent) Eason and Staci Grogan; stepson, Jordan Alkire; grandchildren: Elizabeth Renee Grogan, Thomas Furr, Brooklyn Furr, Connie Furr, Lenette Riley, Joseph Vanegas, and Esdras Vanegas; great-grandchildren, Rayden Terry and Keyon Riley; siblings: Annabel Marie Stansberry, Walter “Arnold” (Debbie) Burch, Shirley Pruitt, Doug (Tina) Bader, Roger Young, William Mofford, and Retha (David) Castle; many nieces and nephews; and former wife, Angela Rose Grogan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Harry David Zornes Jr., Mary Louise Farley, Edna Spradlin, Debra Ginter, and Gary; and great-granddaughter, Malaya DeWitt.
The family will receive friends from 4 – 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio. The memorial service will follow at 5 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the funeral expenses.
