James K. Hunt

James “Jim” Kay Hunt, of Lima, Ohio passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2025.

Jim was born on August 30, 1942, in Lima, Ohio to Richard E. and Mary Jane (Swisher) Hunt who preceded him in death.

Jim is a 1960 graduate of Lima Central Catholic and attended Dayton University, where he studied Mechanical Engineering. He honorably served his country in Viet Nam as a Communication Specialist (Rank SP4 E-4). Following his Honorable Discharge from the Army, he worked for Western Electric and AT&T in California and Ohio.

Jim was the ultimate host of semi-annual family gatherings and the epitome of the “fun Uncle”. A day at Uncle Jim’s house was filled with volleyball, rides in his cherished Firebird Formula 400 and /or ’57 Chevy and massive quantities of food. He was quick to share his love, passion and expertise for restoring and rebuilding vintage cars, roadsters and race cars to anyone and everyone who showed an interest.

His kindness, grit, determination and willpower, which he exhibited throughout his life, served as an inspiration to all his friends and loved ones during his extended illness.

He is survived by his brother Richard (Diane) and by his sisters, Julie (Willis) Brown, Lesley Hunt, and Diana (Matt) Wielinski; 16 nieces and nephews; grand and great grand nephews, Gregory Brown, Melissa (Scott) Workman, Nathan Davis, Hanna and Sara Wielinski, Emily (Ben) Glasure, Rachel Hunt, Mathew (Tiffany) Workman, Kyle (Kaytlin) Workman, Ian (Casey) Brown, Connor Brown, Mara (Caleb) Grothaus, Hudson Workman, and Kane, Parker and Miles Grothaus.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sue (Waldman) Hunt.

The family would like to express their deep gratitude and appreciation to the nurses and doctors who treated Jim, and especially to the hospice nurses of Day City Hospice, who cared for him in his final days.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. Rev. David Ross will officiate. Burial will follow at Gethsemani Cemetery, Lima.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lima Central Catholic Educational Foundation.
