James Thorburn

James Thorburn, 81, passed away at 8:35 p.m. on August 17, 2026, at Springview Manor.

James was born on June 28, 1945, in Lima, Ohio, to Robert and Margurite (Parlette) Thorburn. On June 21, 1969, he married Terrie (McCullough) Thorburn, who preceded him in death.

James was a 1963 Lima Senior High graduate. He served in the Air Force from 1963 to 1967 and was in Vietnam 1966-1967. James retired as Major from the Lima Police Department after 37+ years of service. When he was young, he loved to fish, then later he loved to hunt deer and elk.

He is survived by three grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; two sisters, Carolyn Brenneman and Nancy Thorburn; and many nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Brian Thorburn; and a sister, Norma Thorburn.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Monday, August 24, 2026, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio. The F.O.P. memorial service will start at 12:45 p.m. with the funeral service following at 1 p.m. Chaplain Jim Baker will officiate. Burial will follow at Salem Mennonite Cemetery, Elida.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Deb’s Dogs, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
