Jean A. Boyd

September 23, 1929 — February 12, 2026

Lima, Ohio

Jean A. (Sherriff) Boyd, 96, passed to her next life on February 12, 2026. Born on September 23, 1929, in Denver, Colorado, she was the second child of Elmer and Martha (Bentson) Sherriff. Jean and her family resided on Crayton Avenue in Shawnee for 55 years. Known as Jeany Beany, she most recently resided at the Kessler Estates Senior Living Center in Lima.

Jean married Duane G. Boyd at Grace Community Methodist Church in Denver on September 3, 1950. Their love story began in a hiking club at Colorado State University. On a day hike up Hallett’s Peak in Rocky Mountain NP, Duane offered to carry Jean’s lunch, which ensured they’d be together till lunch time. They stayed together for 71 years, a tribute to their love.

Jean was loved and adored by all that knew her. She was vivacious, outgoing, and compassionate with a joyful spirit and infectious laugh. Her love for people was her greatest attribute. Her faith and her determination were hallmarks of her character. Jean was a member of Faith Christian Church in Shawnee, having been a charter member at the West Elm United Church of Christ in Lima.

In Jr. High and High School, Jean was an avid sports enthusiast, not to watch, but to participate. She played basketball, reveling in her short stature, as well as softball, field hockey and cycling. Jean was chosen as Most Athletic in her senior yearbook, a tribute to her competitive nature and inner strength.

Jean and Duane loved the outdoors and were avid birders, spending many winters ‘snow-birding’ in the southern states, crossing the country in their RV and reveling in their bird watching hobby. Beyond their continental US travels, they visited Alaska, Japan, Australia and New Zealand, and Scotland. Jean and Duane were active in Tri-Moraine Audubon, and were active volunteers at the Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District for over 35 years. Two young oak trees stand in Heritage Park in honor of their volunteer service.

Jean’s legacy continues through her five children: Sharon (Jim) Beckford of Harrod, Keith (Karla-dec’d) Boyd of Lima, Norman (Bobbie) Boyd of Cincinnati, Michael (Rachel) Boyd of Lansing, MI, and Lynette (Ted) Goodwin of Pikeville, TN. Jean’s legacy lives on in 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Jean was preceded in death by Duane in December 2021, along with her parents and her brother William Sherriff.

Family and friends may honor Jean from 1p.m. to 5p.m. on Sunday, February 15, 2026 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home in Lima, Ohio.
