Joyce Howell

Joyce Sneary Strayer Howell, 79, passed away at 6:30 p.m. on February 2, 2024, at St. Ritas Medical Center. 

Joyce was born on October 17, 1944, in Lima, Ohio, to the late Andrew Raymond and Mary Catherine (Morman) Sneary.  On August 18, 1962 she married Ray Strayer. On April 4, 1987 she married Byron William “Bill” Howell who preceded her in death.

Joyce was a 1962 graduate of Lima Central Catholic. She went on to work at National Lime and Stone as a clerk, and later went to Allen Water District as a bookkeeper, where she retired. Joyce enjoyed the races at Limaland and playing UNO and Yahtzee. She liked to make quilts and Barbie clothes as well. Joyce loved living in Florida. She also enjoyed time with friends, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and going out for dinners. 

She is survived by her children, Julie (Tony Gilroy) Scott and Janis (Ted) Ralston; step-children, Blake Howell, Michael Howell, and Jolene (Jason) Smith; grandchildren, Megan, Tony (Liz), Emily, Amanda (Dustin), Katelyn (Nick), Logan, Brittany, Chloe, Baron, Ava, Austyn, Koby (MaKayla) and Colin (Nevaeh); eight great grandchildren; a granddog, Bella; a great granddog Gunner; brother, Thomas (Deb) Sneary; brother-in-laws, Larry Follas and Stan Danser; and a special friend Dick Everett. 

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Susan Follas and Toni Danser. 

The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio.  The funeral service will follow at 5 p.m. Burial will be at a later date.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association.
