Julia Anne Sims

Mar 24, 1952 — Jul 18, 2026

Port Clinton, Ohio

Julia Anne Sims, 74, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at her home.

Julia Anne was born at St. Rita’s Hospital in Lima on March 24th, 1952, the third child of Helen M. and Owen R. Micha, and the sister to brother John and sister Janice.

She lived all of her early years in Lima, attending Roosevelt Elementary, Central Jr. High, and Lima Senior. She spent her summers working at the Lima Recreation Department, going on incredible family vacations all over the country, and enjoying fun times spent with her countless friends, where she was always the life of the party. She followed her brother, sister, and sister-in-law, Ilene, to The Ohio State University, graduating in 1974 with a degree in Sociology. Following graduation, she went to work for OCLC, the largest online library computer system in the world. Her work then took her to Atlanta for a number of years, eventually returning to Columbus to work for Michael Thomas Associates, as a personnel recruiter.

In 1989, she met the love of her life, David Sims, whom she married in 1992. They settled into their first home in Upper Arlington, and it became the center of countless parties, celebrations, and family gatherings. Their love of the water and boating eventually led them to settle into their second and current home in 2006, on Catawba Island. Again, this home became the center of new friendships, family visits, and outdoor living. Julia and Dave particularly loved to take their golf cart to watch the sun set over Lake Erie. She enjoyed swimming, bowling, reading, playing cards, movies, and popcorn, her numerous beloved pets, including her little cat Susie, who dutifully watched over her during her last days at home.

Julia was an incredible, welcoming, and loving person to everyone she came in contact with, always with a beautiful smile and contagious laugh. She worked with the Ottawa County Board of Developmental Disabilities as the recreation director for challenged adults for the last ten years and retired in January of this year. Unfortunately, she began to experience serious health issues not long after that and ultimately lost her very courageous battle with cancer on July 18th, 2026, passing away peacefully with hospice support surrounded by her incredible caregiver and loving husband, her sister Janice, and sister-in-law Patty.

She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Dave; her brother, John Micha (Ilene); her sister, Janice; and her sister-in-law, Patty (Joe Tresey); her nieces, Jennifer (Charles Langstaff), Kristen (Nate Nester), Jill (Jack Kendall); nephew, Patrick Tresey (Danielle); and great-nephews and nieces, Crew and Canon Nester, Maddox and Harper Kendall, and Maxwell Tresey; as well as first cousins, Bruce, Tom, and Jeffrey Bourne and Dorothy Born. She was preceded in death by her parents, Owen and Helen Micha; and nephew, Jonathan David Micha.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, July 27, 2026, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. Rev. Ed Rhinehart will officiate. Burial will be in Pike Run Cemetery, Gomer, Ohio.
