Karen Sue Buetner Oglesbee, 83, of Elida, joined Jesus and her beloved husband, Lawrence (Butch) Oglesbee in Heaven on September 6, 2026.
She was born in Lima, Ohio on May 14, 1943, to Homer and Naomi (Laman) Buetner, who preceded her in death. On November 30, 1963, Karen married Butch, who preceded her in death on February 21, 2026. They enjoyed 62 years together.
Survivors include their son, Chad (Tina) Oglesbee and their daughter, Angie (Kevin Bockey) Evans; grandchildren: Katie Oglesbee, Brandon (Jennifer) Evans, Kayla (Nick) Allison, Levi Oglesbee, Samantha (Casey) Kennedy, Andrew Cole, and Gabriel Tijerina; great-grandchildren: Isabella, Addison, Jordan, Chey, Dakota, Savannah, Levi, Scarlet, Cayden, Cambri, Cali, Lincoln, and London; brother, Brad (Joyce) Buetner; sister, Kathy Davis; and sisters-in-law, Joan Oglesbee and Ruth Oglesbee. Karen will be missed by loving nieces and nephews as well.
Karen was also preceded in death by her son, Jaden Layne Oglesbee; brothers-in-law: Dave Davis, Jack Oglesbee, and Herb Oglesbee; sisters-in-law: Ginny Weisling, Marlene Gagnon, and Ann Spencer.
Karen’s most satisfying occupation was Director of Goodwill Easter Seals where she served adults and children with special needs. She also enjoyed job coaching for the Career Development Company.
Karen will be remembered for her kind and loving ways. She wasn’t splashy, but her continuous, countless acts of love are immeasurable. Karen wasn’t wealthy, but she was rich in compassion, understanding, generosity, grace, forgiveness, and faith. Her famous dog-bone cookies will surely be missed, along with a long list of her amazing meals and desserts. Karen’s hobby was collecting recipes; cooking was definitely one of her love languages. She was the warm, welcoming “Hostess with the Mostess” for holidays and celebrations.
Karen was a proud 1961 Elida High School graduate. She and Butch were loyal Elida sports fans. She proudly served as an Elida Football Mom when Chad and Jaden played in high school. She and Butch attended both boys’ and girls’ sports, and they supported their grandchildren, nieces, and nephews in their athletic endeavors. Karen’s last phone conversation on Earth was planning for the Friday night football game, Elida vs. Shawnee.
Karen and Butch enjoyed their summers fishing and boating in Michigan, their winters in Florida, and their trips to casinos. Karen also had a green thumb for growing vegetables and flowers. She was happy to share them with family and friends.
Karen’s Celebration of Life will be held at Lima Community Church on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 12:00 noon. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until noon.
Donations in Karen’s honor may be made to the Elida Athletic Department.
