Lawrence "Larry" Wayne Volbert

Lawrence “Larry” Wayne Volbert, 74, passed away early on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Mercy Health St. Rita’s.

Larry was born on December 26, 1951, in Lima, Ohio, a Christmas gift for his parents, Clarence George and Catherine (Hooks) Volbert. On May 5, 1973, he married his lovely wife, Rose Marie Gilmore, who survives in Lima.

Larry served in the U.S. Army and then worked for the Lima City Schools as a custodian. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and traveled with his wife, Rose, all over the U.S. on their motorcycle. He was a friendly, sociable person who never met a stranger. Larry was also very accomplished at woodworking.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three daughters: Sheri (Mike) George, Amy (Bob Wireman) Schick, and Jennifer (Adam) Sturgis; grandchildren: Jaycob (Katie) Stratton, Shelby (Ben Harding) Stratton, Nathan Stratton, Regan (RJ) King, Morgan (Jayden Elliott) Schick, Addison Schick, Parker Pliska, Blake Pliska, and Brady Pliska; great-grandchildren: Wrenly King, Bryson Torma, and Leilani Harding; brother, C. George (Toni) Volbert; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Marleen, Kathleen, and Edith; and brothers, Donald and Bernard.

The family will receive friends from 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. on Monday, July 6, 2026, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio. The funeral service will begin at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at the funeral home with another visitation one hour prior to service. Jodi Holtsberry will officiate. Burial will follow at Gethsemani Cemetery, Lima.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors.
