Marquita Kaufman

Marquita “Skeeter” Kaufman, 85, of Lima, passed away on May 28, 2026, at 2:20 a.m. at Springview Manor Nursing Home. She was born on December 20, 1940, in South Shore, Kentucky to the late Edgar and Robena (Lawson) Smith.

On September 24, 1960, she married Byron Eugene Kaufman, who preceded her in death on September 17, 2022. She worked in radiology at Lima Memorial Hospital and Hallmark Eastgate (where she spent more money than she made working there). Everyone loved her butterscotch pies and she welcomed everyone into her home where there was never a stranger in her house. She loved her grandkids and her cat, Blue. She was a member of the Westminster United Methodist Church and former Youth Counselor. She also was a member of the CCL (Child Conservation League).

Marquita is survived by her sons: Frank (Deneen) Kaufman of Longs, SC, Keith (Susan) Kaufman of Columbus, OH, and Chris (Teresa) Kaufman of Waynesfield; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Deliah Crawford; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law: Russell Kaufman, Jim Hamilton, and Linda Kaufman.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather: Fred Young Jr.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Avis (George) Evers, Marva (Gayle) Evers, Barbara (Darrell) Frysinger, Linda Hamilton, Darrell Kaufman, Frank Kaufman, Walter “Buzz” (Betty) Kaufman, Karen Kaufman, and Arnold Crawford.

The family will receive friends from 4 - 8 p.m.. on Monday, June 1, 2026, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at the funeral home. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service from 10 - 11 a.m. Pastor Tony Dirr will officiate. Burial will follow at Salem Westminster Cemetery, Harrod.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or Allen County Humane Society.
