Mary A. Cox, 89, of Lima, passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at 5:21 a.m. at Mercy Health St. Rita’s.
She was born on September 20, 1934, in Bellevue, Ohio to Howard and Laura (Reinsel) Debo. On September 24, 1960, she married the love of her life, David Robert Cox, who preceded her in death on June 17, 2024, after 63 ½ years of marriage.
Mary was a loving mother and grandmother. She was a devoted Catholic who prayed the Rosary daily and cherished her time spent with her Rosary group friends. She had a love/hate relationship with the Cleveland Guardians baseball team. Mary was a genius at whipping up a delicious meal with the barest of ingredients.
She is survived by her children: Rebecca Newman, Steven Cox, and Tim (Melissa) Cox; grandchildren: Jenna (Steven) Perkins, Emily Newman, Nick Newman, Lucas Newman, Caroline Cox, and Katherine Cox; and great-grandchildren, Henry Perkins and Lincoln Perkins; brother, Vincent (Judy) Debo; and brother-in-law, David Alley.
In addition to her beloved husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Joseph D. Newman; and brothers, Howard (Eleanor) Debo and Robert (Judy) Debo; and sister, Liz Alley.
The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, where a rosary service will follow at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 2, 2024, at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church, Lima. Burial will follow at Gethsemani Cemetery, Lima.
