Mary Ann Stemen

Mary Ann Stemen, 92, passed away on Friday, February 6, 2026, at home surrounded by her loving family.

Mary Ann was born on January 28, 1934, in Lima, Ohio, to the late John H. Fillhart and Agnes L. (Vandeven) Fillhart. On August 7, 1954, she married Norman L. Stemen, who preceded her in death on August 24, 2018.

Mary Ann had worked at J.C. Penny, and at City Loan as a secretary. She loved the Lord and reading her Bible. She was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church nearly all of her life. She enjoyed her flowers, gardening, crafting, camping, and shopping. She played the piano and loved music. She also liked playing cards and darts, and cooking for all the family get-togethers. Mary Ann could be found painting and decorating the house multiple times a year. She was definitely the rock of the family! And for most of her life she was a stay-at-home mom, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.

She is survived by her children: Joyce Stemen Christy, Greg (Linda) Stemen, Lisa (Richard) Williams who helped as her caretaker, and Marie Wagner who was her live-in caretaker for the last 7 ½ years; grandchildren: Jennie (Dan) Cherkas, Tim (Jessica) Capretta, Tina (John) Doust, Matt Williams, John (Jamie) Wagner, Dan (Crystal) Wagner, Ginger Parkhurst, Katie LeVesque, and Ben (Angel) Sneary; many great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m.. Father David Ross will officiate. Burial will follow at Gethsemani Cemetery, Lima.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Interim Hospice or Area Agency On Aging.
