Matthew Jay Mikesell

Matthew Jay Mikesell, 45, of Lima, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 4, 2026 at St. Rita’s Medical Center. He was born on December 22, 1980 in Lima to Doyle and Betty {Salsburey} Mikesell. His mother survives in Lima.

On August 3, 2013, he married his best friend, Tosha {Slone} who survives in Lima. Matthew was a Bath High School graduate and was a member of the American Legion 96 and Fraternal Order of the Orioles Lima Nest 173. He was an avid fan of Michigan and Pittsburgh Steelers football. He enjoyed camping, traveling, fishing, hunting, golf, darts, and above all else, spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife: Tosha, children: David (Elliette) Staup, Austin (Avery) VanHorn, and Aiden Leach, grandchildren: Emerie, Elliott, and Esmae, brother: Anthony (Channie) Mikesell, nephews: Jordan (Heather), Payton (Dalanie), Griffen (Jenna), Espn, and Woodson (Hailee), great-niece: Emery, aunts: Sharon “Sis” Mikesell, Peggy Frysinger, and Rebecca Harrod, and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his dad, son: Matthew Jay Mikesell II, maternal grandparents: Virgil and Marian Salsburey, paternal grandparents: Oliver and Marcetta “Marty” Mikesell, uncle: Robert Salsburey, and aunt: Diana (Alan) Coates.

His family will receive friends on Thursday, April 9, 2026 from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M. at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima. A funeral service will begin at 11 A.M. on Friday, April 10, 2026 at the funeral home. Pastor Dan Murphy will officiate. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Lima.
