Mercy Kayser

MERCY A. KAYSER, 89, died at 3:40 a.m. Oct. 21, 2004, at Shawnee Manor Nursing Home. She was born July 1, 1915, in Island, Ky., to Aaron and Sally White Gardner, who preceded her in death. On April 13, 1941, she married Keith D. Kayser, who died Nov. 19, 1998. Mrs. Kayser was a homemaker and had been a cafeteria worker at Central Junior High School and West Middle School for 20 years. She was a member of Westside United Methodist Church and a former member of High Street United Methodist Church. She was a 50-year member and past matron of Trinity Chapter 16 Order of Eastern Star, a member and past worthy high priestess of the White Shrine and a member of St. Marys Court-Order of the Amaranth. Survivors include a son, Robert (Jolene) Kayser of Lima; two daughters, Mary (Richard) Hakin of Lima and Margaret (Glen) Norling of New Glarius, Wis.; two sisters, Juanita Knowles and Mabel Ursey, both of Jasonville, Ind.; a brother, Herb Gardner of Jasonville, Ind.; and seven grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Brady Bower; five brothers, John, Raymond, Sam, Roy and Buck Gardner; and three sisters, Stella Owens, Kate Hunt and Ruby Wells. Services will begin at 1 p.m. Monday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Douglas E. Adams will officiate. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where an OES service will be held at 4 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lima Masonic Building or the charity of the donor's choice.
