Michael Long

June 10, 1955 — April 26, 2025

Lima

Michael Long, 69, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at his residence.

Mike was born on June 10, 1955, in Lima, Ohio to the late Walter and Hazel (Helmig) Long. On June 23, 1979, he married Rebecca (McNett) Long, who survives in Lima.

Mike was raised in Lima and graduated from Lima Central Catholic High School in 1974. After graduating, Mike proudly enlisted in the U.S. Army as a Medical Specialist. After serving, he married Becky who he shared 45 wonderful years with. Mike’s profession started when he completed welding school which led to a career as a welder for General Dynamics.

It’s hard to count Mike’s activities and hobbies, which included everything from cheering on his favorite teams (Ohio State and the Cleveland Browns), following all the local high school sports, fishing, being on the water, and numerous others. He was a true handyman and could repair and build almost anything through ingenuity or lessons learned. You could also find Mike playing cards and dominoes with his close friends and family.

Mike was a successful coach for a women’s competitive softball team, which his wife played for and ultimately led to him coaching his daughter’s basketball and softball teams. He was a supportive parent and was usually the loudest person in the stands at his kid’s sporting events.

Later in life, Mike developed a passion for cornhole and loved competing in tournaments and meeting others who enjoyed the sport. The underlying theme with these hobbies is that he always had a close friend or family nearby. If that wasn’t the case, he would make friends quickly as Mike never met a stranger.

Always opinioned, his wit and charm would have any room laughing. He had the biggest heart, continuously thought of others, and loved his family.

Along with his wife Becky, he is survived by his children, Nick (Jenny) Long and Jackie (Justin) Spain; grandchildren, Isla and Theo; siblings, Craig (Linda) Long, Trice Niemeyer, and Phil (Tina) Long; and many nieces and nephews and in-laws.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio. The funeral service will begin at 12 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2025, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima, Ohio.
