Oliver Wendell Amstutz, 98, passed away at 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at Lima Convalescent Home.

Wendell was born October 26, 1925, in Beaverdam, Ohio to the late Isaac J. and Blanch E. {Hall} Amstutz.  He was the youngest of four children, his siblings: Warren J. Amstutz, Doyle L. Amstutz, and Eileen A.{Amstutz} Spyker; all of whom preceded him in death.

On August 8, 1951, at Evanston, Illinois he married Marilyn Frances {Purtell} Amstutz, his most beloved wife and help mate for 58 years, who preceded him in death on April 9, 2009.

Surviving are their two children, Mrs. Ann E. (Joel) Dysart and John Christian (Donna) Amstutz; grandson, Timothy Joel Dysart;  granddaughter, Heather Ann Sharp;  great-grandson, Andrew James Dysart.  Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Wendell was proud of his English and Swiss ethnicity but most of all he was an American first and a true and faithful son of his beautiful Ohio.  He volunteered for the Navy V-5 Program during WWII and also served in the Army during the Korean War.

Wendell graduated from Michigan Technological University where he earned his degree in Chemical Engineering.  He retired from Sylvania in Ottawa after a long career with them.  He had a great curiosity and was an observer of many things.  He enjoyed reading, especially history and genealogy.

Per his wishes, there will be no visitation or service.  He will be interred beside his wife in Gethsemani Cemetery.
