Pamela J. (Porter) Cotrell
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast. (Ephesians 2: 8-9)
Pamela J. Cotrell completed her earthly assignment and was called to her heavenly home on June 7, 2022 at 12:30 a.m. She was born on January 6, 1956, in Steubenville, Ohio to John E. Porter and Donna (Leone) Porter. She later lived in Marion, Kenton and finally Lima, Ohio. In 1994 she Married Steven E. Cotrell, her beloved husband, friend, and help mate who survives in Lima.
Mrs. Cotrell was a Registered Nurse and graduate of Rhodes State College and Bluffton University. She was employed for many years as an occupational health nurse at Airfoil Textron. She more recently was employed by the Ohio Coalition for the Education of Children with Disabilities where she passionately advocated for families of children with disabilities. Her interest in working with the disabled began as a 12-year-old when she volunteered at a summer camp for children with special needs.
Mrs. Cotrell is survived by her stepdaughters, Nichole Cotrell, and Brittany (Omar) Errouiam as well as by her siblings, John Porter III, and Lisa Anne (Bill) Detwiler. She also leaves behind cherished nieces and nephews on both the Porter and Cotrell sides of the family. One of her greatest joys in later life was being a great aunt to Kamdyn, Fraya, and Miyah Wallace. She treasured the many friendships she made and sustained throughout her life.
Pam was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan R. Skaggs; her mother, Donna Porter; her father, John Porter, Jr.; and an infant sister, Mary Porter.
Her dear Poppy and Nan, John and Adelaide Porter also preceded her in death. She looked forward to meeting up with Susie for that promised cup of tea where Susie was finally able to “do all of the talking”.
Pam had a special gift as a committed caregiver, first to her daughter and later to her father. She had her challenges with the first cancer diagnosis at the age of 42. She gave it the needed attention, but mostly spent her time and energy living her life. She wanted to thank those special family members and friends who were not afraid and walked the cancer journey close by her side.
As per Pam’s wishes there will be no public viewing. A graveside service will be held at Lewis Grove Cemetery in Bath Township in Lima, Ohio on Friday June 17, 2022 at 11 a.m. Dr. Leah Eiden will speak.
In Lieu of Memorial contributions, it was Pam’s request that you consider making a phone call or visit to a person who is confined or to their caregiver.
