Richard Umfleet, 74, of Lima, passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at St. Rita’s Medical Center. He was born on May 18, 1947 in Bloomfield, MO to the late Lawrence and Thelma {LaGrand} Umfleet. In July of 1973, he married Debra Welch, who survives him in Lima.
Richard graduated from Advance High School in Advance, MO, as well as Lima Technical College. He was electrician for the State of Ohio, starting at Lima Correctional, Oakwood Correctional, and then eventually Allen County Correctional, where he retired. He was a member of the IBEW Local 32 in Lima. He was in the U.S. Army from 1965-1967 and then retired from the Army Reserves in 2007. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who would help anyone and everyone that asked. He could fix and repair anything and was truly a jack of all trades. Richard coached soccer for the Elida Youth for 12 years as well as the Grand Lake United Soccer team. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes and Cincinnati Reds fan and tried to visit all the different sports stadiums.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons: Paul Umfleet, Kevin (Krystal) Umfleet, and Steven (Lisa) Umfleet, daughters: Christy (Zach) Broshes and Linda Vorhees, daughter-in-law: Karissa Lutz, former son-in-law: Paul Vorhees, grandchildren: Nevaeh, Kylie, and Camden Vorhees, Connor and Sophia Broshes, Jackson and Max Umfleet, Evelyn and Owen Umfleet, Sabastian and Carter Umfleet, Jordann Hamami, Justin Umfleet, and Katie Lovell, 2 great-grandchildren, brothers: Don (Patsy) Umfleet, Mike Umfleet, and Dennis Umfleet, sisters: Vickie (Rodney) Phelps and Sue Ann (John) Thompson, and sisters-in-law: Cindy (Kevin) Bruin and Sheila (Mark) Conrad.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son: Timothy Umfleet, brothers: Sonny, Larry Joe, Roger, Bill, Kenneth, Herman, and Cletus Umfleet, and sisters: Imogene Delay, Lela Means, and Thelma Gavel.
His family will receive friends on Friday, January 21, 2022 from 3-5 p.m. at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, where a time of sharing will begin at 5 p.m.
