Robert “Mark” Loar, 72, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at his residence.
Mark was born on August 30, 1952, in Lima, Ohio to Darrel Robert and Ruth Ann (Rhoda) Loar. He is survived by his mother, Ruth Ann; and brothers, Mike (Janna) Loar and Tim (Brenda) Loar; 5 nieces, Brittany (Sean) Saffell, Jackie (Nick) Wiedenhoft, Brooke Lucas, Carly (John) Mitchell, Mackenzie (Brian) Ogrin and 7 (soon to be 8) great- nieces and nephews. His father, Darrel, passed away three days after Mark.
Mark was a 1970 graduate of Lima Shawnee High School and attended OSU Lima. For most of his career, Mark worked at Rhoda Brothers (a family owned business). In later years, he devoted his time to the Allen County Council on Aging. Mark was a frequent visitor to the Lima Public Library “Ask Here” desk, and he faithfully volunteered for 3,900 hours at St. Rita’s Medical Center. He mentored many youth in the area while coaching Little League baseball for years.
Mark enjoyed traveling and sightseeing. His travels included London, New York City and numerous national parks. His favorite destination was Lakeside, Ohio where he enjoyed porch chats with family. Mark had many interests including US history, the NASA space program, politics and sports. He was an avid Reds and Buckeye fan; bringing the same passion and joy to every game as he did to every gathering. Mark also enjoyed attending the Lima Symphony and the Encore Theater on a regular basis.
Mark loved the Lord with all his heart- a true servant and member of Shawnee United Methodist Church. He was loved by everyone who knew him. People remember him for his kindness, quick wit, and generosity of spirit. For many years, he joyfully cared for the needs of his mother. He was dearly beloved by his nieces. Wherever Uncle Mark went, fun and laughter were sure to follow. His love for family members and friends was unparalleled. In a nutshell, he was a humble man who served his Lord, his family, his friends and members of his community with a happy heart.
