Robert S. Thompson

Robert S. Thompson, 88, passed away at 10:03 a.m. on April 20, 2024, at The Springs of Lima. 

Robert was born on December 31, 1935, in New Knoxville, Ohio, to Austin and Emma (Elshowe) Thompson.  In November 1986, he married Marlene McCullough, who preceded him in death.

Robert graduated from Memorial High School in St. Mary’s Ohio. He worked at St. Mary’s Service Center - Wright Truck Stop in Celina while in High School.  Robert then attended Pepsi Cola Management Institute in Phoenix Arizona and Numerous sales and vending seminars and schools. He worked at Pepsi Cola Wapakoneta and Lima for 34 years as sales, vending, and fleet manager. He then worked at Braun Industries Ambulance Company as a cushion maker for 15 years.   He was a St. Mary’s VFW member and Clown President for 36 years. Robert enjoyed woodworking, mechanical work, boating, skiing, fishing, country music and traveling. 

He is survived by a significant someone, Donna Michael; daughters, Vickie (Larry) Pearce of Kansas, Sandy (David) Yahl of South Carolina, Betty (Terry) Terhark of Georgia, Betsy (Don) McCollum of Lima, and Donna (JR) Woods of Michigan; four stepchildren, Sharon McClintock of Ada, Brett (Sally) McClintock of Waynesfield, Janet Watkins of Ada, and Tracy Hughes of Jackson Center; thirteen grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren. 

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a stepmother, Amanda (Elshowe) Thompson; a daughter, Susan (Randy) Wicker; two brothers, Eugene Elshowe and Harold Thompson; two step-grandsons, Seth McClintock and Justin Hilyard; past wife, Janet Thompson. 

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio.  The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 26, 2024, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio, with a 1-hour visitation prior to service.  Rev. Mike Kaufman will officiate.  Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta, Ohio. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
