SAMUEL ALVIN "AL" POST, 86, formerly of Gomer, died at 9:35 p.m. May 24, 2004, at Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay. He was born March 24, 1918, in American (formerly German) Township, to Louie Crites and Margaret Augusta Trust Post, who preceded him in death. On Nov. 8, 1942, he married Frances Pauline Seibert, who died March 18, 1998. Mr. Post had been owner/operator of the Gomer Farm Store for 31 years. He was a member of Gomer United Church of Christ. He had been a 4-H adviser for 49 years. He served on the Allen County 4-H Council and represented the boys' 4-H at the Junior Fair Board since 1970. He had been a Junior Fair superintendent for the crop, shop and special projects department. He was instrumental in organizing the first Tractor Safety/Ag Mechanic Club. He was named the Friend of 4-H in 1992, the Outstanding Allen County Fair Supporter in 1993 and 1998 and was the grand marshal for the Allen County Fair parade in 1986 and 2001. He was very active in the local Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization and was awarded the Kathryn Rigali Memorial Award in 1987. He received the Book of Golden Deeds Award from the Lima Exchange Club in 1992. He was a charter member of American Grange 2584 and was awarded the Certificate of Appreciation from the Allen County Pomona Grange in 1983. He was an honorary chapter farmer with the Elida Future Farmers of America and was an honorary lifetime member of the Elida Young Farmers. He was a member of the Lima Farmers Club and the Elida Band Boosters, had served as president of the Allen County Implement Dealers Association and was a charter member of the Gomer Dads' Club. Survivors include a daughter, Margaret "Peggy" (Robert J. Jr.) Grandbois of Findlay; a grandson, Robert J. "Bobby" Grandbois III; and two nieces, Cheryl (Jim) Sutherly and Karen (Boyd) Rader, both of Lima. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert E. Post. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Brian Knoderer will officiate. Burial will be in Allentown Cemetery, Allentown. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Gomer United Church of Christ Celeste Stop Fund, the Allen County 4-H Endowment Fund or the activities department at Birchaven Retirement Village.
