Sok “Kim” Nan Houck, 81, of Lima, was welcomed home by her Lord on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at home surrounded by family. She was born on May 12, 1944, in Pohang, Korea to the late Churl Kim II and Cui Pan Park.
She married William R. Houck, who preceded her in death in 2013. After countless attempts to persuade her, she finally said yes and they were married on September 30, 1966. Kim proudly retired from Superior Metal after 27 years. She was a longtime member of Yedarm Korean Church and a lifetime member of the VFW Post 9648 in Columbus Grove. She loved gardening, indoor plants, cooking, and feeding other people, sometimes right from her hands.
She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren immeasurably and loved to occasionally hand out dollar bills to her great-grandchildren. Though her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her life, she couldn’t live without her beloved dog, Penny. You would always see a football-shaped wicker basket with Penny in it everywhere she went. She had a very blunt, no filter attitude toward life, which sometimes led to embarrassing moments, specifically an incident at a restaurant where she asked another table of guests for not one, but two pieces of their cake, which they so lovingly obliged. Even though she was stubborn and a bit bull-headed at times, she had a generous heart. She truly would give the shirt off her back to anyone in need. Her love language was giving to others, sometimes through time, energy, love, and of course, food.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda (John) Bishop II of Lima and Sarah (Brian) Brademeyer of Jonesborough, TN; grandchildren: Erin (Dan) Szippl of Van Wert, Ethan (Katelin) Watkins of Van Wert, Emily Sites of Lima, Sydney (Roger) Norton of Kingsport, TN, Haley Brademeyer of Jonesborough, TN, John “Joey” (Leeann) Bishop III of Mt. Cory, and Emily (Devin) Cheatham of Mt. Blanchard; 11 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Churl Do Kim and Jin Do Kim both of Korea.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Sok Soun Kim.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 8, 2026, from 2 - 4 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m. at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the funeral home. Friends may visit one hour prior to the funeral from 10 - 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Lima.
