Sondra Kay Simmons Bateman was born in Lima, Ohio on August 13, 1938. She passed from earth into the arms of her Lord Jesus Christ on December 2, 2025 at the age of 87. She and her husband William Thomas Bateman, who predeceased her, were married in September 1956. Their three adult children, Julie Kimberly Bateman Williams of Cardington, Ohio; Lynn Ann Bateman of Hilyard, Ohio; and Thomas Joel Bateman of Wilmette, Illinois survive her as do her 7 grandchildren.
Following the dissolution of her marriage in 1988, she suffered extreme difficulty with emotional, mental and physical issues including breast cancer and many other illnesses and setbacks. But she never gave up on trying to be a better person as she learned to cope with the hard places in her life. During her recovery she worked for many years as a Nanny for several families and was deeply loved by the children she served and their parents.
She is survived by her only living sibling, John Simmons of Eugene, Oregon. In 2013 John, while researching their family history, connected with a sister, Barb Schrieber, who was previously unknown to them. Up until then she thought she was the only girl in the family with four brothers. She was known only as Sis to her brothers. Even her nieces and nephews knew her as Aunt "Sis." But now she had a sister. She was so excited about finding her sister Barb that in her mid-seventies she moved from Columbus to Ottawa, Ohio to share life with Barb and her husband Gary. Sondra and Barb brought each other much joy and happiness until Barb predeceased her in May 2020.
Sondra's faith in her Lord was strong and she was known as a loving, caring, and
and sweet person by all who knew and served her in the twilight years of her life.
