Steve C. Montgomery

Steve C. Montgomery, 76, passed away at 11:57 p.m. on August 8, 2022, at his residence.

Steve was born on July 18, 1946 in Dayton, Ohio, to Clyde F. and Louise Mae (Miller) Montgomery.  On June 28, 1969 he married Marilyn (VanScoyoc) Montgomery at Oakdale United Methodist Church in Deshler, Ohio, and she survives in  Lima.

Steve was a 1964 graduate of Elida High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1965-1969 during the Vietnam Era and served 13 months in country. He worked in sales at Frito-Lay, several area funeral homes selling preneed and the local Veterans Affairs Clinic for 5 years helping the local veterans. Steve was very active in supporting the veterans as a life member of Disabled American Veterans and Vietnam Veterans of America #89. Steve was a 2015 Jefferson Award Winner, and a Sertoman of the Year Award winner. Steve was a Senior Vice Commander of DAV#19, Lima, Ohio; Senior Vice Commander and Life Member of Marine Corps League # 1063. Steve was a past president of VVA #89, member of The American Legion #96, Past President of the Allen County Veterans Council, and a Patient Advocate for Lima CBOC. He was a Charter Member of the West Ohio Food Bank where he served as President for 10 years, and also a Charter Member of Elida Area Sertoma Club where he served as President. Steve was a 53 year member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Delphos and a long time member of its Methodist Men where he served as president, and also a member of the Lima Eagles Aerie #370.

Along with his wife, he is survived by his children Crystal Anne (Jeremy) Montgomery-Boring of Columbus, Ohio; John Howard (Tiffany) Montgomery of Hilliard, Ohio; Bryan Keith (Elaine) Montgomery of Elida, Ohio; grandchildren, Morgan Boring, Elizabeth, Gavin, Keaton, and Benjamin Montgomery; one brother, Craig (Carol) Montgomery of Lima, Ohio; and multiple nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Marcia Tilford.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio.  A funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 14, 2022  at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima with visitation one hour prior.  Rev. Rich Rakay will officiate. Burial will follow at Ash Grove Cemetery, Lima. Graveside Military Honors to be conducted by VFW Post #1275.

In Steve’s honor if you choose, the family suggest wearing patriotic colors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Allen County Veterans Food Pantry, Delphos Trinity UM Church- Building Fund or Honor Flight.
