DATELINE: Harrod, Ohio
Vincent D. Whitehead, 66, passed away at 1:55 a.m. on Monday, April 6, 2026, at his residence after a courageous 2 ½ year battle with pancreatic cancer.
Vincent was born on June 29, 1959, in Lima, Ohio, to Frederick and Janet (Henderson) Whitehead. On July 28, 1979, he married Cheryl (Bowerman) Whitehead, who survives in Harrod.
Vince enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1978 and served 6 years with most of his service at K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base in Marquette, MI as a staff sergeant in the security police division. He was then employed for 28 years and retired from FedEx, where he delivered to Delphos and western Allen County. After retirement, he decided to invest some of his retirement savings to start tattooing; a job he was quite well known for. Vince was a lifetime member of Lima Baptist Temple, a member of Midwest Shooting Center, and a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment. He was also a longtime conductor of the Polar express for The Harrod Historical Society and supporter of the Allen County Children’s Museum, and loved trains. Vince had a strong passion for art, he made his life a work of art. He had a strong love for his family, as Vince would say, his love and life was God, Family, Guns and Art.
He is survived by his wife Cheryl; children, Amy (Jeff) Kimmel, Jonathan (Jennifer) Whitehead and Timothy (Dr. Jennifer) Whitehead; grandchildren, Parker, Cambria, Makenna, and Harrison; and a sister, Vicki Leedom.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Valerie Butoric and a brother-in-law, Hal Leedom.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at Lima Baptist Temple, Lima, Ohio. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 13, 2026, at Lima Baptist Temple with visitation 1 hour prior. Pastor Ben Anderson will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Allen County Veterans Commission or Allen County Children’s Museum.
The family would like to give a heartfelt Thank You to everyone involved in Vince’s care, including the staff at St. Rita’s Cancer Center, and St. Rita’s Hospice.
