Byron “Gene” Kaufman, 85, passed away at 1:20 a.m. on September 17, 2022, at Mercy Health St. Rita’s.
Gene was born on August 9, 1937 in Waynesfield, Ohio, to Guy Oscar and Mabel Ann (McGinnis) Kaufman. On September 27, 1960 he married Marquita (Smith) Kaufman who survives in Lima.
Gene worked at Davis Enamel, Browns Floor and Wall, and the Lima BP (Standard Oil) Refinery. Gene was a member of Westminster United Methodist Church and a former youth counselor and youth baseball coach. He was a member of Lima Lodge 205 F&AM, Scottish Rite-Valley of Dayton, and Antioch-Shrine. He was a volunteer fireman for the Westminster fire department. Gene was an avid golfer and bowler with 2 hole-in-ones and a 300 game.
He is survived by his wife and children, Frank (Deneen) Kaufman, Keith (Susan) Kaufman and Chris (Teresa) Kaufman; siblings, Russell (Karen) Kaufman, Darrell (Linda Sue) Kaufman, and Linda Lee (James) Hamilton; a sister-in-law Deliah Crawford; eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Walter “Buzz” Kaufman, Frank E. Kaufman, Barbara Frysinger, Marva C. Evers, and Margaret “Avis” Evers; brothers-in-law, Darrell Frysinger, Gayle Evers, Arnold Crawford, and George Evers; and a sister-in-law Betty Kaufman.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio. A Masonic Service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a Scottish Rite Ring Service. A funeral service will be held at Harvest Baptist, 1301 Navajo Tr., Wapakoneta on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at 11 a.m. with visitation 1 hour prior. Pastor Gary Bragg will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Waynesfield Memorial Walk-way.
