Christina Janet Althoff

Christina Janet Althoff, 88, passed away at 1:55 p.m. on March 26, 2023, at The Heritage in Findlay, Ohio.

Janet was born on May 23 ,1934 in Lima, Ohio, to Chris and Lyda M. (Busick) Gelo.  She married Kenny Althoff on May 25, 1957, who preceded her in death on August 14, 1988.

Janet was a 1952 Shawnee High School graduate. She also graduated from Rhodes State College with a degree in Early Childhood Education.

Janet was a member of the Lima Baptist Temple, where she taught Sunday School and led the 2 and 3 year old Children’s Wednesday Night Club.  One of her personal accomplishments was starting a Bible School with her good friends: Sandy Muntis, Dawn, and Rachel Roberts. Another accomplishment was that she initiated the use of sign language for the church services.

Janet was a member of the “Silver Sneakers Club” at the YMCA.  She enjoyed visiting her friends there while doing her exercise routine.   She was thankful for her friends: Bill and Betty Davidson, Ruth, Judy, Sandy, and Sue.

She is survived by nieces and nephews: Shellie McClure, Barb (John D.) Finn, Jim Gelo, Judy Loudenbach, Ned Gelo, John (Alice) Paradore, and Karen (Kenny) Piercefield; as well as numerous great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Catherine Paradore, James H. Gelo, Mary Gelo, Phyllis Kilgore, and Betty Gelo.  She was also preceded by a niece, Marilyn Gelo; and great nephews: Tony Gelo, Shawn Paradore, and Dakota Street.

There will be a private family service at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lima Baptist Temple or the donor’s choice.
