Obituary

David “Bucky” Nichols, 70, of Lima, went to be with his lord and savior on April 28, 2023.

David was born May 8, 1952, in Alger, Ohio to Polly Ann (Keaton) and Hargis Nichols, and they preceded him in death.

David was a family man and avid Christian, OSU fan, and Bengals fan. He never knew an enemy. He will be remembered for the love he gave to everyone, especially the Lord Jesus Christ. He was a man of his word. He loved, and he loved hard. David attended Bath High School and joined the Army before he graduated. He served from 1969 to 1971 and was stationed in Korea. David worked at Phillips in Ottawa, Ohio until its closure in 2002. He then went on to work at Marathon Electric, and eventually he retired from Dana Inc. David married Geraldine Rister on June 10, 1972, she preceded him in death on August 3, 2005.

They were blessed with three children: David (Jennifer) Nichols of Archbold, Ohio, Stephanie (Todd) Baxter of Columbus Grove, Ohio, and Stephen (Sara Panagos) Nichols of St. Louis, Missouri. In addition, he is survived by his grandchildren: Zachary and Benjamin Baxter, Lila and Jonas Nichols, and Ireland Heitmeyer; his fiancé, Rhonda Heitmeyer; his siblings: Elwood (Linda) Nichols, George (Doug) Nichols, Randy Nichols, Wayne (Greta) Nichols, and Martin Nichols, all of Lima; brothers-in-law, Gary Rister, and John Rister; and sister-in-law, Tina Mitchell. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.

David was preceded in death by his brothers: R.C. Nichols, Eddie Lee Nichols, Casper Nichols, Carl Nichols, Kelly Nichols; sisters: Kathryn Long, Anna Bailey, Glistine Rhine; sister-in-law ,Karen Rister; brothers-in-law, Roy Rister and Larry Mitchell; and in-laws, Sylvia and James Wicker.

David enjoyed his time camping at the lake, supporting his grandchildren in anything they were doing, daily coffee trips to Kewpee with Elwood, watching Ohio State football, and making bets with his daughter on all Bengals/Steelers football games where the loser bought breakfast.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, May 1, 2023, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio.  A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at the funeral home.  Rev. Brandon Wireman will officiate.  Entombment will follow at Memorial Park Mausoleum, Lima.
